Last tuesday I went to a ZEN meeting and a monk that came from San Francisco shared this story about something I quickly saw as segment intending.
He shared this story about being a cook in a monastery. He said that cooking is the hardest work in a monastery (and in fact anywhere else) but the real difference is that they take it very seriously because eating in a monastery is one of the greatest pleasures in there (Imagine, there's no outside communication, no internet, no TV, no radio, no music, no magazines)
So they explained that when they cook, they put all the love, and energy and dedication in eevery single detail, and they do not discriminate whether it is more important to chop a carrot than baking bread or seasoning... EVERYTHING is important regardless how hard or easy it is.
So they say, roll your sleeves, work hard with the task at hand and give it all your love because that little task is part of a broader goal, which is giving good tasting, good looking meals for the monks.
finally they said, we're all cooks, we are cooking our lives everyday, seasoning every moment to savor it... so, intend that every little thing you do, segment by segment, you put all of your loving, all of your passion and all of your focus, without discriminating what moments are more important or more to our liking than others. EVERY moment is VERY important, as every ingredient is important to prepare a good lasagna!

This is so beautiful, Adal!
I AM COOKING A LIFE OF LOVE, LIGHT AND LAUGHTER. In EVERY moment. I find the joy and good in everything that happens. I find the joy in the small tasks that are a part of the greater whole because I know that it is all connected, it is all ONE, part of the greater good.
Since I don't actually like to cook, this is a funny metaphor for me, but it just might inspire me to go and try out something in the kitchen!!!
Oh oh, watch out, the princess is cooking!!! Will she be able to come up with something more than pasta with salad dressing on it?

I have made myself believe the same and when I try to cook, I can have water to get burned!!! LOL
