NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - A discovery unveiled at Rutgers University offers scientific proof that at least one of the three men who brought gifts to new newborn Jesus was wise indeed.
Myrrh, a fragrant resin identified in the New Testament as one of three gifts the Magi brought to celebrate the birth of Jesus, contains a potent cancer-fighting compound, Rutgers researchers have found.
The compound, furanosesquiterpenoid, is very toxic to cancer cells and could be developed into a powerful treatment for many forms of the disease, said Mohamed Rafi, A Rutgers cell biologist.
